Virtues

Every humanoid character has virtues. Player characters start with balanced virtues. Your actions throughout the game will impact your virtue traits.

Virtues are public in Sciasy, so yours may affect how NPCs react to you.

Virtues separate the Righteous and the Wicked factions. The Righteous value virtues, while the Wicked value vices.

Virtues & Magic

Your virtue alignment affects the power of certain magic schools. This creates meaningful choices in character development.

Divine Magic

Divine magic channels holy power through moral righteousness.

Effect: +20% at max virtue, -20% at min virtue

Best for: Paragon and Virtuous characters

Infernal Magic

Infernal magic draws strength from embracing darker impulses.

Effect: +20% at min virtue, -20% at max virtue

Best for: Abyssal and Vicious characters

Nature Magic

Nature magic requires harmony and balance to reach full potential.

Effect: +10% at balanced (50/50), 0% at extremes

Best for: Bland and balanced characters

Tech Magic

Tech magic benefits from a neutral, pragmatic approach.

Effect: +10% at balanced (50/50), 0% at extremes

Best for: Bland and balanced characters

Other magic schools (Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Vitalistic, Necrotic) are not affected by virtues.

Virtue Ranks

Your overall virtue score determines your virtue rank. The virtue score is the average of all 6 virtue traits (0-100 each).

Paragon

The Paragon rank is awarded to character with over 80% Virtues.

Virtue Range: 80% - 100%

Virtuous

Virtuous characters have over 60% Virtues.

Virtue Range: 60% - 79%

Kind

Kind characters have slighly more Virtues than Vices.

Virtue Range: 51% - 59%

Bland

No specifc virtues or vices.

Virtue Range: 50% - 50%

Cruel

Cruel characters have slighly more Vices than Virtues.

Virtue Range: 39% - 49%

Vicious

Vicious characters have over 60% Vices.

Virtue Range: 21% - 40%

Abyssal

Abyssal characters have over 80% Vices.

Virtue Range: 0% - 20%

Virtue Traits

Each trait ranges from 0 (vice) to 100 (virtue). Your actions in the game affect these traits over time.

Kindness / Cruelty

Kindness is the ability to be kind and to help others. Cruelty is the opposite, preferring to harm others.

Courage / Cowardice

Courage is the ability to face fear and danger and to stand up for what is right. Cowardice is the opposite, only picking fights when you know you can win.

Honesty / Deceit

Honesty is the ability to be truthful and to tell the truth. Deceit is the opposite, only telling lies when you know you can get away with it.

Humility / Arrogance

Humility is the ability to be humble and to admit when you are wrong. Arrogance is the opposite, only admitting when you are right.

Loyalty / Betrayal

Loyalty is the ability to be loyal and to stand by your friends. Betrayal is the opposite, only being loyal when you know you can get away with it.

Generosity / Greed

Generosity is the ability to be generous and to help others. Greed is the opposite, only being generous when you know you can get away with it.

How Virtues Change

Your actions in the game affect your virtue traits:

+1 to +5 for minor virtuous acts (helping a stranger, telling a small truth)

+5 to +15 for significant virtuous acts (saving a life, major sacrifice)

-1 to -5 for minor vicious acts (small lie, petty theft)

-5 to -15 for significant vicious acts (betrayal, cruelty)

NPC Virtues

NPCs are generated with virtues based on their stance:

Friendly NPCs - Tend toward virtue (avg ~70)

Hostile NPCs - Tend toward vice (avg ~30)

Unpredictable NPCs - Wide range, anything goes
